With the media changing, and journalists gathering information in new ways, PR pros have to change their thinking to avoid getting lost in the digital shuffle. Pitching the old fashioned way i.e. a traditional press release, cannot be the only way.
At knoodle we have added a new tool to our bag-of-tricks – tweet pitching.
Many reporters are avid users of twitter. They use it to get content and story ideas, while also building relationships, acquiring sources and gathering information. The tweet pitch allows the reporter to see, in 140 characters or less, the meat of our story, and why they should cover it. Twitter is also a great way to follow up with reporters, continuing a relationship beyond one story, to say thanks for meeting or inquiring etc.. PR pros should make reporters their best “tweeps” in this new era of Social Media.
